Installation of a Permeable Reactive Barrier to Prevent TCE Migration

Background
The former industrial site, previously occupied by a pharmaceutical company, was considered as a potential area for the construction of a facility requiring several below ground levels. The objective of the project was to excavate, manage and treat the contaminated soil to meet the established regulatory criteria.

Biogenie was mandated to carry out the project due to its extensive experience and ability to provide guarantees with regard to treatment performance, project cost and timeframe.

Solution
Prior to undertaking the remediation work, Biogenie conducted a detailed characterization study, using a precise grid pattern, with the objective of optimizing the excavation work to be carried out.

Approximately 8,000 tons of soil contaminated with chlorinated solvents was successfully remediated using an ex situ Biopile treatment process.
