Traitement in situ

On-Site Treatment

Among other practises, Biogénie is renowned for a biological treatment process called “biopiling”. It is used to decontaminate soils  directly on the client’s premises. Our technical and technological know-how and our ongoing research and development activity have rewarded us with a solid international reputation. Depending on which contaminants are present on site, we can recommend and provide a combination of proposed treatment processes.

Biotreatability Studies

Biogénie can, if necessary, proceed to a laboratory biotreatability study to establish which biological treatment processes are best suited to the situation at hand. This allows us to identify the optimum parameters for biodegradation and to assess the potential performance of various methods of treatment. We may also recommend biological treatment processes coupled with other secondary processes.

Biological Treatment Technology

Biological treatments proposed:

  • Create favourable conditions for the regeneration of micro-organisms naturally present in the soil or water to help break down organic contaminants,
  • Accelerate the natural process of soil decontamination reducing it to only a few weeks rather then having it take several decades,
  • boosts the presence of oxygen, nutrients, surface active agents or structuring agents, and
  • Controls the level of humidity, acidity (pH), temperature and other parameters, such as:
    • Ex situ Biopiling
    • In situ Biopiling
    • Biosparging
    • Bioventing
    • Bioslurping
    • Biobarrier / Permeable Reactive Barrier
    • In situ Biostimulation
    • Natural Attenuation

Secondary Treatment Processes

We can also provide the following secondary treatment processes:

  • Contaminated soil,
    • Thermal treatment: desorption, incineration
    • Physical treatment: dry sifting, soil washing, gravimetric separation, granulometric separation
    • Volatilization, venting
  • Ground water,
    • Catchment area with recovery wells
    • Catchment area with trenches
    • Pumping and treatment: filtration, precipitation, physical oil-water separation, air stripping
    • Air sparging
    • Permeable Reactive Barrier (iron, biological, etc.)
  • Recovery of Loose Waste or Spills, and
    • Interception trenches
    • Skimming systems
    • Phase pumping systems
    • Bioslurping, Dual-Phase Extraction
  • Control Measures.
    • Leak-proof barriers, using sheet pile or pilings
    • Cement-bentonite leak-proof barrier/wall
    • Interception trenches
    • Capping
    • Excavation and landfill
